Afton, OK to Lebanon, MO - Sept 12 - Day 12

Today we started out in Oklahoma then crossed through Kansas and ended up in Missouri.  Route 66 only crosses through 13 miles of Kansas. It was an interesting day with interesting places and even more interesting people.  We were able to cruise around Mickey Mantle's hometown of Commerce, Oklahoma and see his home and the ball field named after his father. We also met two ladies from Galena, Kansas who actually own the original truck "Tow-Tater" which was the true inspiration for Mater from the movie Cars.  We also met Gary Turner in Paris Springs, Missouri who is such a great character.  He welcomes everyone and can talk and talk and make you laugh for sure! We ended up spending the night at the Munger Moss Motel in Lebanon, Missouri where Bob and Ramona have been running the motel for 39 years.

  1. Hey Carol and Jay! LOVE IT!! You made it to your final destination!!! It looks like you two are having a great time! It's fun to see all of the memorabilia...a blog is a great idea. I"ve been checking in a few times to your blog to see where you were and it was fun to keep up with your journey! It's Saturday, 925 and I got the day off! It's beautiful here today (finally). My friend,Julie and I are going to the Padre/Reds game. The Home of Guiding Hands invited me and a guest to the game and they have the Commissioner's Suite so it should be great!
Have Fun on the trip back home! Keep on Blogging!!
