Santa Monica Pier to San Bernardino

Day 1 and we are off!! What a surprise. We started out from the Santa Monica Pier at 2:00 P.M and arrived in San Bernardino at the Wigwam Motel at 7:00 P.M.!! It was 78 miles in 5 hours and probably hundreds, if not thousands, of stop lights. Oh, and did we mention the police cars that pulled in front of us in L.A., stopped traffic, pulled out their guns and pointed them at a guy crossing the street? It's an intersting start following the original and official Route 66!  If the rest of the trip goes this way, we'll be lucky to make it to Chicago by the end of the month. Thank goodness we are "winging it" and didn't make reservations ahead of time!! Tomorrow we are headed toward the Grand Canyon, we'll see how far we make it.

  1. Jay/Carol....sounds like you are off to a great start. I hope you get this. let me know. Judi says you should add "Get your kicks on Route 66" to the songs.

  2. Hoffa,
It's great to hear from you!! The playlist of songs does have Route 66 on it. It's the first song on the list and you can choose to play it when you sign on. We're resting in Kingman, Az right now and plan to update the Blog later tonight.

  4. Looks like you're both having a lot of fun. Jay, how tired were you after that epic battle with the huge fish, and are you planning to stuff it and mount it on the wall?

On another note.....you are now +34 to my -8 after winning day 1 (Stricker 65) , and there was a tie on day 2....Woods and Kuchar both with (33-32) 65's.

Somehow all of our players made the cut, so we are four and four going into days three and four.

Keep on truckin'...... Going to my 50th year reunion party tonight. Those guys all look old....not like us. Bye for now.....Mike

  5. It looks like it's just getting better and better. I am wondering about the weather...is it on the hot side or reasonable? Also, how do you keep finding those Wigwam Motel sites? they look like fun.......

On another note, JT was cut by the Bengals which was bad, but then picked up by the Chargers. Since he lives in San Diego, that is all good.

  6. Hoffa........Weather started very hot going thru San Bernardino and then thru Barstow, Needles and thru most of Arizona desert. Wew spent the night in Santa Fe, N.M. and the weather was very pleasant and then last night we camped and fished in the mountains east of Santa Fe(we took a break from our route66 trek). Beautiful!
I'm going to have to go to a few Charger games when I get back. Come down and we'll make it happen. Ididn't know JT lived in San Diego.......BWaugh
